I’m Still Alive!

In response to a few concerned messages from lovely people wondering why I have fallen off the face of the earth, I thought I’d just check in and let you all know that I am fine, and what I’ve been up to lately that has seen me too busy to blog. Thank you to everyone who got in touch, I am really amazed at how many blogging friends I have already – it’s an unexpected but wonderful bonus of this little venture of mine!

So what precisely have I been up to that’s been keeping me away from you? One thing: PhD thesis! The next deadline (because there is always another one, after this I’ll no doubt have more to do based on comments and feedback from the other jury members, and then there’s the actual Defence out in Florence, but I don’t even want to think about that right now) is approaching next weekend, and I have been feverishly slaving away at it. Dull. You don’t want to hear about it.

But, it hasn’t all been thesis tedium – if you follow me on Instagram you’ll see there’s been quite a lot of cute animal action:

a lot of booze and coffee to help me through:

and some great presents for my birthday (which is today! I shan’t divulge my age though), some of which might have been to myself!:

I completely love my new linen sheets from H&M Home – I finally went ahead and got them. They are so unbelievably cosy. With hindsight it might not have been the most sensible time to get them because now all I want to do is snuggle in bed – getting up early to write my thesis is getting harder and harder.

The succulents were a total bargain – only £5 for 6 of them from Lidl! Amazing. Now I need to plant them in something nice, but they’re going to have to wait a couple of weeks. Finding lots of ideas of what to do with them on Pinterest though (another prime tactic for thesis-avoidance!).

The best present though was a box of really awesome horsey bits and pieces to make things from, given to me by my little sister Tash, who knows me far too well, before she left on her travels around the world. For those of you that know her and want to keep up with her escapades you can follow her new blog here. I’ve got plans for a few of the things but I’m excited to sit down and play around with the rest at some point in the future. She also came laden with a bottle of Bollinger, which is always welcome round my way.

I’ve also been to the most wonderful wedding of an old school friend and had the time of my life catching up with everyone. I’m so lucky to have a big group of girls who I keep in touch with from school and it always amazes me that no matter how long we’re away from each other, it always feels like it was just yesterday. Hello to any Leweston ladies reading – you all rock! And huge congrats again to Cat and Dave – the wedding present will follow just as soon as I have made it!

Other than that, it’s been work, work, work. And avoiding the work. My house has never been so clean. I even bought a new all-singing, all-dancing hoover in the bank holiday sales – it has a pet adaptor that has finally seen our sofa hair-free for the first time since it was introduced to our four furry little buggers. For a Virgo that is a big deal.

Ten days to go now – and then Ste and I are off to Lisbon for a few days for a little celebratory holiday, which I am so looking forward to. I’ve never been so any Lisbon tips would be gratefully received in the comments please. Thanks to Will for yours.

And then, I’ll be back to blogging with a vengeance. I have so many ideas and so many half-finished projects to finally crack on with, I can’t wait.

Thanks for bearing with me, and see you on the other side!

  1. Happy Birthday!!! Your presents look fabulous, and isn’t it a rule that a woman always gets herself a little something for her own birthday? Or any holiday for that matter? 🙂

  2. There’s an historic area near the Belém Tower. Can’t remember what’s there as it’s so long ago. Might be a cathedral. Anyway, what my Lisbon friends wanted me to try were the Pastel de nata, or egg custard tarts. There was at least one Victorian cafe, that was huge inside. And they specialised in them. So delicious. Definitely worth checking out. Anyway, happy belated birthday. And enjoy your trip. It’s one of my all-time favourite cities.
