DIY Hand Soap Dispenser

This has to be the quickest and simplest DIY I’ve ever done. In fact, calling it a DIY seems a bit of a stretch really.  I wanted to upgrade the bathroom hand soap from the plastic dispenser you buy it in, to a nice ceramic one. I’ve been looking for ages though, and not found one I liked.

Yesterday in The Range I came across this cute little glass bottle with cork stopper for only £1.49.

I’d had vague ideas of making a dispenser from a small port bottle I’ve been keeping for something, but the neck was too small for a pump, but this would be perfect. I also bought a generic handsoap for £1 which came with a silver pump.

At home, I soaked the cork in hot water for ten minutes so it wouldn’t crumble, and then asked Ste to help me drill a hole through it. In actual fact, the cork was so soft, he didn’t need the actual drill, he just used the drill bit to screw down through the cork. I probably could have done it myself, but he likes to be involved!

We used a drill bit just a little smaller than the pump stem, so it had to be squeezed on tightly. I waited until the cork was dry and put a layer of superglue around the inside of the hole, then pushed the pump down through it. Once the glue was dry, I filled the dispenser with soap, wedged the cork in, and voilà!

A cute bespoke soap dispenser for the huge sum of £2.49 and five minutes’ work. The kind of DIYs I absolutely love!

    1. Absolutely Angie! Had a bit of a manic time at work these past few months, but as of this week I’ve gone part time so will have much more time for blogging and would love to come back to the party again! And co-hosting would be an honour!! 🙂

  2. WOW! That’s VERY clever Anna! If hubby hadn’t just gone out in the car I’d go to the range right now! 😛 We only use dispenser soap in our house (I can’t stand grubby soap bars)! and this is JUST what I need to do! Thank you so much! 🙂

    1. Thank you! I think it looks so much nicer than plastic dispensers, and it’s easy to clean too (pretty important obviously!). I reckon you could do it with any jar of the right size, but the one I found in the Range really was perfect! And so cheap! 🙂

      1. I shall go to the Range soon (I’ll never get out of their car park on a bank holiday weekend so it’ll have to wait)! Thanks so much! I’m excited… we have three pump dispensers in the house! 🙂
